Graven Images: Altering the Commandments? (old testament)

posted by Bobby L., 01.11.2007

Steve, there is an important passage which we rarely hear but is critical to this type of thing. When Samuel was sent to the house of Jesse to anoint the next king, Jesse paraded 7 of his sons before Samuel thinking that surely one of these strong and mighty sons would be fit to be king. When God rejected all 7, he told Samuel, "don't look on a man's countenance, or his height and stature because that's the way mankind judges such things, by outward appearances. God looks not at outward appearance but at a man's heart." The last son, who was out tending sheep, wasn't even considered by Jesse because of his stature, but God looked at his heart and selected him (David) to be king.

Man doesn't need a statue to worship a false god. He can make anything a god. There is nothing evil of itself. It is what mankind does with it in his heart that can become evil.
