Christ's role as God (miracles)

posted by fezik82(R), Ohio, 11.09.2014

When Christ was asked by the Pharisees where He received the authority to heal on the Sabbath, He said, "my Father is working right now and so am I" (John 5:17)... He included Himself in God's work even as man. I don't think that I ever realized how much I've been overlooking and what it meant for Christ to remain 100% God. The Father's only interaction with His Creation on earth has always been through the Spirit and the Son. When He spoke to the Old Testament prophets, it was Christ who they heard.. when God descended, it was Christ they saw.. when He created the earth, the Son and the Spirit were His hands. Christ said, "I can do nothing of myself, but that which I see the Father do" (John 5:30). I am wondering... what could He have "seen" the Father do if all of Creation has always been a hands on operation physically performed only by the Son and the Spirit? He hasn't physically "seen" the Father create, could He have seen anything other than the Father's thoughts? It seems as though the Son is somehow in the mind of the Father, a part of His inmost being? If that is the case, the same must be said while He was on earth since He was still the same God as always before... and John 3:13 states that He was in heaven while on earth.

It's strange how Christ could be the Almighty Creator while still a man on earth... but I don't know what that means anymore! There were children in the Gospels, obviously they were brought to the earth while Christ was still man... so who created these children? Did God set aside His order of creation and temporarily not involve the Son? I don't believe that there really could have been no involvement from God at the time of our conception or birth... but John 1:3 and Colossians 1:16 together state that all things are by, for, and through Christ, that "nothing" has come into existence without Him. Is that where Christ's involvement would be left if our existence was up to the luck of the draw... in bringing us forth? I was wondering what your thoughts were here... would John 1:3 demand Christ's involvement at the moment that we came into existence... or only prove that we could not exist if not for the God given ability to reproduce?

That's it for that question.. but in regards to Christ's role as God while on earth, I'm just wondering about what His duties are in "sustaining" all things? I don't know what all that entails? Hebrews 1:3 states that the Son is the exact representation of the Father and that He "sustains all things by the word of His power". What does that mean for His responsibility as God while He was on earth? I'm just very curious! Christ never laid aside an ounce of Divinity, He was and always has been 100% God... but I guess that I never really considered what He was still doing as God while He was a man on earth. I'm not asking anyone to go and search out the answer, but if something comes to mind I would really like to hear it!

I asked The Lord how much He loved me

He stretched out His arms and said, "this much"

Then He died for me
