Shemini Atzeret (general)
Rosh HaShanah, or Judgment Day was on September 25-26th, and ten days later was Atonement Day. Immediately following was the Festival of Booths, or Sukkot. This is a time that Israel has been preparing for God to deliver His judgment, and in the Old Testament, of course reward or punishment came in the form of temporal favors and setbacks. Today is the eighth and final day of the Festival of Booths, called Shemini Atzeret. Today is a day of assembly, a day set forth to show love to God... and it is the final day for God to decide the amount of rainfall He will deliver to Israel based upon their Judgment. The Jewish people have been in preparation of this day for the past week by reciting prayers for rain. Historically, there was a ceremony where the people would follow the High Priest while he drew water from the Pool of Siloam to offer at the altar in hopes that God would offer them more rain for the year. What's amazing is that one of the prayers that ancient rabbis associated with this ceremony was Isaiah 12:3:
Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation [yeshua].
According to John 7:37-38:
On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
The next verse goes on to explain that this water that Jesus would offer was the Holy Spirit... eternal peace.
Jewish people around the world have been praying for salvation (yeshua) most heartily over the past eight days, but they won't find it while they are still looking for temporal rewards. They need to search for internal peace. Today is a good day to join them in their prayer for salvation!
Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one [echad] LORD:
Isaiah 45:17 But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation
Joel 3:16 The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.
Isaiah 45:3-4 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel. For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.
Jeremiah 33:7-8 And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first. And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against me.
Psalm 25:22 Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.
Matthew 15:24 But [Yeshua] answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Luke 23:34 Then said [Yeshua], Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.
I asked The Lord how much He loved me
He stretched out His arms and said, "this much"
Then He died for me
