The Seed and the Word (revelation)

posted by PureWord(R), 09.16.2014

I am writing a book "The Enormity of God". Here is an excerpt:

Word and Seed (How God's Word Works in Us)

When Jesus was explaining the interpretation of the parable of the sower, he said the seed that the sower was sowing was the Word of God (Mark 4:14) So, according to Jesus, a seed has certain qualities that are similar to the Word of God. So “Seed” = “Word” in a sense. If you understand how a seed works, it is easier to understand how God's Word works.

The original New Testament was written in Greek. There are 2 Greek words that are translated in to the English word “seed”. Also, there are 2 Greek words that are translated into the English word “word”. One Greek word translated into the English word “seed” is “sporos”. “Sporos” means, “scattered seed”. In telling the parable of the sower, Jesus said that some of the seed fell by the wayside. Other seeds fell on stony ground and yet others fell among the thorns. But some seed fell into good, fertile ground and produced much fruit. “Sporos” has the connotation of scattered seed that produces no life or fruit. The other Greek word translated into the English “seed” is the word “sperma”. “Sperma” has the connotation of something that has been implanted and produced life. Sperma is often used when referring to an offspring as the “seed” of a father. “Sperma” started out as a “sporos” but when it became planted and produced life the “sporos” became “sperma”.

Now, there are the two Greek words translated into the English word “word”. Let's look at the similarities to the words for “seed” and the words for “word”. The first is the Greek word “logos”. “Logos” by definition is a word spoken. It has the connotation of something that is read or heard as in the words in a book or the words in a conversation. The second Greek word for “word” is “rhema”. “Rhema” has the connotation of a spoken word that has become a revelation and produced life. Like a seed that has been planted into good soil and produces new life, a “rhema” is a spoken or written word that sinks into someone's heart and brings revelation and life. To those that don't know Him, Jesus was just a good man or prophet who lived over 2000 years ago. To them, Jesus is just a logos. That logos brings no life with it. To those who have truly accepted Jesus, He has become a “rhema” word that has been implatned to bring new life and revelation to that person. To that person, Jesus is no longer just a “logos” lifeless word but Jesus has become their real life Savior and an intimate, fulfilling relationship begins.

When we read a passage of scripture (and maybe have read that passage a hundred times) and all of a sudden we see something deeply meaningful and life giving, something that we have never seen before, that is a “rhema”. We've read the words on the page a hundred times but they were just “logos” words. But this time those words sunk into our hearts with life and revelation. Those “logos” words just brecame “rhema” words.

When, out of the blue, God speaks a word to our heart (spirit), that is a “rhema” word. We don't hear the words with our ears but with our heart. Many times it just takes a second to receive but may take minutes to translate in our minds. If you have never had that happen, keep seeking for more of God and His direction and His truth and I assure you it will happen to you.

There are countless pollen and mold spores that enter the atmosphere every day, yet only a miniscule amount of them ever germinate and produce life. There are an average of 300,000,000 sperms in a normal ejaculation, yet only one of them produces life.

So comparing the similarities between seed (sporos and sperma) and word (logos and rhema), there would be a countless amout of logos words that go out to produce one rhema. Think of God's enormous power here. He literally sends out billions and trillions of logos words to accomplish one rhema word. He is continually trying to get our attention. To direct us. To protect us. To lead us into truth. His great love for humanity and His desire to reveal Himself to us is immeasurable. I am convinced that we all miss the vast majority of God's cummunication to us, yet God doesn't get mad at us, He just keeps on loving and sending His words to us.

Some may say, “I don't believe that.” What they are really saying is “I don't believe that God is big enough or powerful enough to do that.” Not only is God that big and powerful, the extent of His power has never even entered the human mind. We are not capable of comprehending it. “For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what He hath prepared for him that waiteth for Him”. Isaiah 64:4

Thus, the parable of the sower. The sower's seed was the word. According to the parable most of the seed fell on ground that produced no life. Some did produce life when it fell on fertile soil. We are the intended recipients of God's Word. When we are open to receiving the truth of God's Word and are willing to lay aside all preconceived notions, ideas and doctrines, no matter what the cost, then we become the fertile soil that will produce an abundance of fruit after the seed (word) is planted.

Think of how many millions of sermons that have been preached from this one book, the Bible. Not just the whole Bible, but think of how many millions of sermons that have been preached from certain individual passages of the Bible. (John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8, Romans 10:9-10, Romans 10:17 and on and on) I am always amazed at how many times that I hear a Bible teacher or preacher talk about a certain passage and bring out something that I've never heard or seen before and I've been listening to preachers and teachers for many years. Each verse of the Bible contains layers and layers of truth and revelation. People have been studying God's Word for thousands of years and they are continually getting new revelations and insights that have never been revealed before from the same verses of scripture. In God's Word, the Bible, there are countless “sporos” seeds. Yet, even though the countless numbers are there, they are lifeless until one of those seeds is planted, or impregnated, in our hearts and creates life. At that time the “logos” word becomes the “rhema” word.
