Good movie: Salem Witch Trials (video-photo)

posted by bibleprobe(R) Homepage, Mass., 06.14.2010

I just watched the DVD Movie entitled the "Salem Witch Trials" starring Kirstie Alley, Shirley MacLaine and Alan Bates. I am struck by how much this activity in Salem, Massachusetts in the 1690's is similar to the Inquisition by the Catholic Church earlier, during the middle ages. Both are extreme examples of "PIOUS HYSTERIA".

Protestants can rightfully claim that the Catholic Inquisition was unjust. But although on a smaller scale, were not the Salem Witch Trials by Protestant "Puritans" equally unjust? Also, during the 16th century, didn't both European Catholics and Protestants hunt down the poor Antibaptists (because of their heretic views about infant baptism) together? Prior to the Anabaptists, all major Christian denominations saw baptism as necessary for salvation and necessary for infants, and held that it was wrong to delay baptism until the child had reached a certain age. Many Christian denominations continue with this "non-infant baptism" heresy, even today.

We are all in this together folks. We are all of us sinners. We are all of us sinners.

This is just an observation by a "non-denominational" Christian. May neither ever be repeated in all of Christendom...

Recommended DVD:
"Salem Witch Trials", 2003
