Those who follow this prize closely think this is quite a surprise. My question is, what did he do to deserve it? (I thought about putting a capital H on he as a sarcastic joke, but thought some might still find it offensive, so I only thought about it.)

I'm with you on this... I do not see how he deserved it. Obama himself said, "I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many transformative figures that have been honored by this prize."

Come on... there are many people that have done fantasic things and should be high on the list for such an honor... I don't think he should have been one of them, and last poll I saw 75% of people agree!

Nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize closed on February 12 this year! So this means Obama was nominated for the prize not even a MONTH into his presidency. This is a slap in the face to the winners of the Nobel Peace Prize that have actually done something of value to earn the kudos associated with the award, e.g. Martin Luther King Jnr., Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, just to name a few.
