Drinking of Wine (general)

The drinking of wine is part of our traditions, and should be continue upon conversion to becoming a Messianic Jew. There should be no prohibition toward the drinking of wine only drunkenness. I say, that you cannot be a true Messianic Jew if you do not hold to traditions. It is totally ridiculous to believe that wine referred to in the Bible was grape juice. No rational thinking person believes that wine referred to in the Bible was grape juice.

Drinking of Wine

I entirely agree with you. Evangelical Christians and many other denominations are always trying to sell the lie that Jesus and the apostles drank grape juice and not wine.

The Apostle Paul, a Jew, told us that wine is good for the stomach. It says the same thing in other parts (Proverbs I believe) of the Bible also. And after all, Jesus changed water into wine at the marriage FEAST of Cana. I don't think they had grape juice at weddings - even in those days.

Yes it is very, very possible to drink wine and not get drunk. And we have the "French Paradox". The French have a high fat (rich with butter & creams, etc) diet, and they also drink a lot of red wine; yet they also have a much lower incidence of heart disease, compared to westerners who don't drink red wine. Flavanoids? Still, I wouldn't drive a car after drinking more than a glass of wine. It is best drunk with a meal.

Just look at apple cider vinegar. It is very healthy for you (with the cloudy "mother" and its potassium content). Vinegar is one step in the fermentation process beyond alcohol. Take apple cider alcohol and let it sit, and it turns into vinegar.

I think beer and hard stuff are the stealthy killers. One glass of beer packs on the same colories as a slice of white bread. Drink 6 12 oz cans, and you just ate a half loaf of bread and put on an awful lot of water gain (3+ x that of 2 glasses of red wine) to boot. Bread goes directly to the gut. I recently lost 15 lbs in 3 weeks by cutting portions, and eliminating all breads. Hard stuff likely helps your circulation as red wine does. But more than a shot a day probably will be too much for any body, and health problems will surely follow.

Drinking of Wine

I have done a lot of soul searching about wine and I'm still confused, so I don't partake at all (it's been five years).

In the Bible we are told to stay away from strong drink. Could this be the fermented grape juice (wine)? Did they have the ability to distill grains or potatoes to make hard liquor (whiskey)?

I was told that any grape juice that was left in a wine skin would become fermented. And an older wine skin would ferment the wine more quickly.

Thank you for your kind replies.

Drinking of Wine

I am not sure where it says stay away from strong drink. Can you please find me that quote? Drinking of wine is a tradition and custom of being Jewish, and non-Jewish. G-d does tell us that drunkeness is a foolish thing but the drinking of wine is normal and many people believe it is actually good for you to drink in moderation. The drinking of wine is not evil however being drunk is a serious problem. The prohibition against drinking wine actually began during the prohibition area of America, and has very little to do with the Bible. Believe it or not some people think that dancing is wrong, music is wrong, and the list goes on and on but the Bible the word of G-d does not say that there is anything wrong with music or dancing. Being in the hands of G-d is suppose to be joyful, and is joyful if you follow the word of G-d. Basically, if you follow G-d's word, life is good, and you will be blessed. I am not saying you will be rich but, you will be happy. I can find nothing negative coming from the word of G-d. He tells us to honor our father and mother which results in good things. To honor your father and mother, means to have a good reputation, become educated and work toward having a good job which gives back to the world. If you do not lie, you become trusted by all which only adds to your success. I mean the list goes on and on. The things he tells you to stay away from are bad things. Think about it. He never tells you to stay away from good things.
